Iraq’s $79-Billion Windfall

Posted on Aug 5, 2008

A congressional report has found that the Iraqi government will soon havea $79-billion surplus, thanks to the record price of oil. It’s a figure

that will surely raise eyebrows as the U.S. shells out an additional
$48 billion for reconstruction, but the situation, like all things
involving billions and bombs, is a lot more complicated.

For one thing, it’s a bit rude to shock and awe
a country, funnel billions in reconstruction funds to corporate cronies
that suck at reconstructing things, and then demand that those ingrates
we’ve occupied start paying their share.

New York Times:
The soaring price of oil will leave the Iraqi government with a
cumulative budget surplus of as much as $79 billion by year’s end an
American federal oversight agency has concluded in an analysis released
on Tuesday.

The unspent windfall, which covers
surpluses from oil sales from 2005 through 2008, appears likely to put
an uncomfortable new focus on the approximately $48 billion in American
taxpayer money devoted to rebuilding Iraq since the American-led
invasion.

Over all, the report from the Government
Accountability Office estimates, Iraqi oil revenue from 2005 through
the end of this year will amount to at least $156 billion. And in an
odd financial twist, large amounts of the surplus money is sitting in
an American bank in New York—nearly $10 billion at the end of 2007,
with more expected this year, when the accountability office estimates
a skyrocketing surplus.

Copacetic Menial Labor

Pondering.......

Be it bent over in a vast rice field planting, sowing, reaping a crop till you drop.
Be it confined to a 25 square foot cubicle, 17" monitor, phone, and a process that needs human input 24/7.
Or fighting a 25 MPH wind at 25 degrees, your feet in a cold wet trench, digging clams, all alone.
Possibly, fitting wing nuts for 25 years on an assembly line to the umpteen washer or dryer.
UPS-ers always take a right turn delivery. day in day out, never not a package to bring, ever.

Virtually all species heart's beat around a billion times before quiting, some beat faster for a shorter duration life-span.
Of the 6 billion folks on the planet, what if .001% [60,000]made a significant difference for 1%[60 million] of the planet.
What are the 99.99% of the bubble to take away, for their billion heart beats.

also,
The inflationary financial cost of daily existence has and will increase decade to decade, relentlessly.

As a example,an item everyone buys, but do not need, say Coffee.
A 10 cent cup of coffee of the 50's, is now a Starbucks 5 bucks$.
What "they get" converts 70 years of what is a coffee worth, since most folks pay it,typically?
A 1950 10 cent coffee gets $5 now. Fifty times growth factor.

Convert that fifty times to wages then and now [1950].85/hr x 50=
$42.50 /hr.
Which should be the Aver Hourly Wage...Now.
Not quite the [2008], $7.25/hr it will be in two years, the Republican Congress finally opened it cold heart?

NOT!

There is No Free Market when it comes to Oil.....the 20% Solution....

IMHO....

On this Memorial Day, a day when American citizens express their thoughts and prayers
to the brave soldiers that give there lives to uphold a principle and obediently obey the people we elect,
regardless of rhyme or reason.

Let us put our thoughts also toward what and why our children are dying for.

As the cost of OIL that comes out of the ground stays constant ~ $10/barrel.
Whether it comes from the Arctic,Middle East, Mexico or the USA,
The Powers that Be, have continued to, on speculation, raised the price of OIL to ~$65/barrel.
How else can BIG OIL make extravagant historic quarterly profits?
The conflicts in the Middle East is, and that is a big IS, for the power to control OIL.
Mostly to maintain the status quo. Keep it in the hands of the people that are in power now.
The USA gets 20% of its Oil from the Middle East.
Guess how much OIL the country would save if the speed limit was dropped to 55MPH national and enforced....20%.
My solution to the Middle East quagmire.
Jobs, education, and taxation of all of the people of the Middle East.
A real dose of Democracy.
If the USA had a naval blockade at the Strait of Hormuz stopping and taxing every barrel of oil that's exported.
Say 20%...
Then that money turned over to the people of the region in micro-loans to start businesses, go to school, buy TVs.
The whole region will think more about their stable future and less about their after-life.

"nappy-headed hos"

The Rutgers female basketball players called "nappy-headed hos" by Don Imus are ready to voice their opinions on the remarks that led CBS Radio and MSNBC to suspend his morning talk show for two weeks.

Totally out of bounds, and totally typical of Imus at his crappiest.

I never liked Imus much.
Mostly his holier than thou attitude and the host of half-ass-ed guys he had on around and supporting him.
They all were lowest common denominator type agenda journalism.
Always forcing out a jib-jab to be sarcastic or cock radio humor by put-down, politics.

To hear Imus say today, that his show is basic comedy show took me back a little.
He has always made a point of making a political point.Pundit forced feeding Cable News.
So, now he says he is sorry, basically, you-all are taking me way to serious?

Sorry Imus, not only are you getting old.
Your shtick is too.
I hope the advertisers remove their support. The only thing that will get the show canceled.

Watch out Rosie is looking for a spot! MSNBC would be smart to look that way.

Ann Coulter's Face on Toilet Paper

clipped from gigglesugar.com

GiggleSugar Exclusive! Product of the Day: Ann Coulter Toilet Paper

I think I speak for most people (no matter what their politics), when I say that Ann Coulter just needs to shut her pie hole. Her hate speech, poorly disguised as political commentary or "jokes," should get no more attention from mainstream media. C'mon now--Coulter's not serious enough to be a political commentator and not funny enough to be a comedian. Since it's unlikely she's going away as long as we take her seriously, I say we should stop talking back--and start wiping.

Rhetorical Crapiers

Rhetorical Crapiers

"a rhetorical question is one asked solely to produce an effect (especially to make an assertion) rather than to elicit a reply"

Does this sound familiar?
When you listen to any of the network news channels,
and especially the channels devoted to telling you the news 24/7 !!

"a rhetorical news report is presented solely to produce an effect".
What effect are they going after? Typically it is to confuse you, yes, to make the issue as unclear as possible.

Check out Olbermans Opinion of Bush's New Sacrifice Strategy

Take the time to watch this video, Iraq policy will no longer be left up to our leaders with no accountablity.

Hey Saddam, How they Hangin' ?????

Hey Saddam, How they Hangin' ?????

Looks like he is gonna see his 7 virgins soon.
Good ridden to another guy that needs to go to Hell.
Do not Pass Go do not collect $220.

I suppose the poop will hit the Proverbial Fan,soon after his body is displayed to the public in Iraq.

Martyr Hellion and all around dastardly guy that he was, those insurgents just can not get along, 60,000 strong, the bar of Terror will be raised still lower, I'm afraid, and all that jazz.

I suspect Bush will say the new up tick in violence and American troop deaths that are sure to follow the "Move Forward Plan"are Saddam's fault.

Enough already!
Stop the Insanity!

Obama and Colbert in '08

Dec 21, 2006 at 7:04 PM

What a team that would make huh?
Would be like the current team in office.
A front man to stay on script, "Stay the Course"
" Move Forward" into the past, or is that 'Nam.
And Steve to drive the ship into the sunset, while giving us a daily snippet "THE WORD"
We all will be on the deck of the Titanic, laughing our asses off.
Only this time the voyage will be different.
Why no Deja Vu .
I'm sure you don't know that Bush's War on Ice is a grand success! Didn't know it?
All those Katie news types just want to stir the negative pot.
Good News that doesn't blow up in your face just isn't gonna make it to the 6:00 spread.
No way No how...

What's ur opinion of Obama and Colbert '08

A Democrat w/ a Republican gonna fly?
We could do worse....
